Hancock Springs

Hancock Spring is a spring-fed tributary to the Methow River, located southeast of Mazama, WA. Historic dairy operations caused considerable degradation of the channel and the original stream morphology was lost. As a result, the stream was over-widened and shallow, had excessive siltation, low sinuosity, and offered little habitat diversity for salmonids. Hancock Spring lacked the ability to naturally regain its historic form due to an inherently limited sediment supply and insufficient velocity to restore a pool-riffle morphology.
