Wetland Sod Species Mixes

We have seven different species mixes in our general inventory. Some are a three way mix between two Sedge species and one Rush species, while others are a monoculture of Bulrush.

    Water Sedge, Beaked Sedge, and Common Spikerush

    (Carex aquatilis, Carex utriculata, Eleocharus palustris)

    One of our wetter wetland sod mixes.

    Tolerates long periods of inundation.

    Performs well on wide range of soils.

    Aggressive rooting for great erosion control.

    Water Depth: 4 to 10 inches

  • Nebraska Sedge, Woolly Sedge, and Arctic rush

    (Carex nebrascensis, Carex pellita, Juncus arcticus)

    Great erosion control.

    Provides residual cover for nesting waterfowl.

    Tolerant of changing hydrology.

    Average stem height of 18”-24”.

    Water Depth: Moist soil to 6 inches deep

  • Woolly Sedge, Beaked Sedge, and Common Spikerush

    (Carex pellita, Carex utriculata, Eleocharus palustris)

    Great erosion control.

    Tolerates long periods of inundation.

    Resistant to waterfowl pressure.

    Establishes fast.

    Water Depth: Saturated soil to 6 inches deep

  • Nebraska Sedge, Beaked, Sedge, and Arctic rush

    (Carex nebrascensis, Carex utriculata, Juncus arcticus)

    Best all-around erosion control mix.

    Tolerates fluctuating hydrology at the water's edge.

    Performs well on a range of soil types.

    Provides persistent residual waterfowl nesting cover.

    Foliage: Mix of light to dark green stem shapes.

    Average stem height 24”.

    Water Depth: Moist soil to 9 inches deep

  • Woolly Sedge, Beaked Sedge, and Arctic Rush

    (Carex pellita, Carex utriculata, Juncus arcticus)

    Great erosion control.

    Provides residual cover for nesting waterfowl.

    Tolerant of changing hydrology.

    Average stem height of 18”-24”.

    Water Depth: Moist to 9 inches.

  • Hardstem Bulrush

    (Schoenoplectus acutus)

    Good off–shore barrier to wave activity.

    Tolerates long periods of inundation.

    Performs well across a range of soil pH and textures.

    Provides wetland dependent songbird nesting habitat.

    Foliage: densely growing, dark green cylindrical stems.

    Stem height: up to 48” tall.

    Water Depth: 6 inches to 24+ inches.

    Will handle temporary drawdown once established.

  • Panicled Bulrush

    (Scirpus microcarpus)

    Good erosion protection.

    Waterfowl consumes seeds.

    Very attractive inflorescence provides aesthetic appeal.

    Foliage: densely growing, flat green blades.

    Avg. stem height 24”.

    Water Depth: Saturated soil to 12” deep
