Featured Project

Project: Teton Basin Wildlife Habitat
Location: Driggs, ID
Client: Intermountain Aquatics
Date: 09/2005

Challenge:
Sundown River Ranch was a recipient of North American Wetland Conservation Act (NAWCA) dollars to enhance habitat for long-billed curlew (a globally imperiled shorebird) and other waterbirds in Teton Basin Idaho. Impounding irrigation water behind a series of low-level berms created a thirteen-acre wetland.

Solution:
Berms were constructed of highly erodible silt soils in an agricultural setting prone to weed invasion. Wetland Sod was used to “bio-armor” berms and inhibit the establishment of noxious weeds. Additionally the product withstood prolonged wave energy and sporadic intensive herbivory from trespass livestock.
